The United Faculty of Theology is

The mission of the UFT is
- to encourage a radical vision of the gospel of Christ which will equip students not simply to understand faith, but to change the world by living the faith that does justice

The UFT offers
- teaching at all levels: undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs of the Melbourne College of Divinity
- supervision for research, including co-supervision for research students from other institutions and disciplines seeking to incorporate theology or spirituality into their work
- flexible modes of delivery: classes at Parkville and Geelong, online units and courses.
The UFT encourages and promotes
- scholarship in Christian theology, other faith traditions, and inter-disciplinary study
Areas of study at UFT include:
- Biblical Studies - Hebrew and Greek, introductory and specialised studies of biblical writings, hermeneutics.
- Christian thought and history - philosophy, systematic theology, ethics and moral theology, church history.
- Christian
life and ministry - pastoral skills, religious education, spirituality,
missiology, worship and liturgical leadership, religion studies.

Who studies at UFT?
- Some come as full-time, some as part-time students, some as school-leavers, some as mature-aged
- Some are committed church members, some are not
- Some are first-time students, others returning to study after many years
- Some come to prepare for ministry, others to upgrade their skills, and others simply out of interest
- All come to explore a fascination with the big questions of life and what it is to be a human person in God's world.

The UFT was formed in 1969 to provide theological education on an ecumenical basis by sharing staff and facilities and bringing together the students of the member institutions in common classes. By common consent, the United Faculty of Theology makes its classes and other resources available, on payment of fees, to students who are not enrolled with any of the member institutions. UFT students are eligible for financial support through FEE-HELP and Austudy.
The UFT is one of the Recognised Teaching Institutions (RTIs) of the Melbourne College of Divinity, which is constituted under the Melbourne College of Divinity Act 1910-90 of the Parliament of Victoria.
